Plus, these drivers are supposed to work. But after a decade of installing and uninstalling pro tools, I made an educated guess on how to do it properly. ![]() If you try this method, I hope it works for you. It may take a while to download all four version updates from the Digidesign site, and do a fresh install of Windows 7, (it took me a few hours), but it's worth it. They did! The old driver/ new driver thing never really seems to work right. Because I didn't want it to keep overwriting drivers, and I had a feeling the new drivers would work properly. The reason I didn't let it install the drivers seemed obvious to me. So it seems like the interface saw no drivers. Not until the drivers were installed in 8.0.4. I'm not 100% sure that it didn't install drivers, but I do know that when I plugged in my Mbox2 for the final install, it didn't power on. It really wants to install those drivers, but you can't let it. I should note that when you are telling it to not install drivers on the first 3 installs, you will have to hit the Skip or No button at least 20 times. When it asks to install drivers, then AGREE to all drivers. Install 8.0.4, reboot, Install 8.0.4, PLUG INTERFACE IN to your computer. Install 8.0.3, it makes you reboot again, then Install 8.0.3. Started to Install 8.0.1, then it makes you reboot again, then I started 8.0.1 install (Skipping all the drivers once again.) Rebootĥ. Whenever anything came up I skipped it, or hit no, or whatever it says. ![]() I installed Pro Tools 8.0, Skipping all the drivers. Then I went to control panel and removed Internet Explorer (Which is known to cause issues), under the Programs and Features Icon, to the left it says Turn Windows Features on or off.ģ. When I got the computer running I downloaded Firefox and Google Chrome. I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 圆4Ģ. I think this may help some people out so, Here was my procedure for getting pro tools to work correctly on Windows 7.ġ. I hated even having to use Vista at all, because Windows 7 runs so much smoother. I recommend, at this point, putting the Windows 7 back on that came with your computer (if it did), and forgetting about Vista. I can sort of understand old interfaces not working, but shipping new interfaces only compatible with Vista in late 2010 would be rather stupid. I guess they didn't want them to all get shipped, not working. I am assuming Avid has had to fix this Windows 7 issue because they have released all new interfaces. Those standalone drivers for Pro Tools 6 didn't really even work right, as advertised. Then I went to the internet, to youtube, and it was coming through my speakers. I was so surprised when I went to play itunes and it came out of my monitors. Basically all sound comes out of your interface. These drivers work through Microsoft Sound Mapper. ![]() One thing they fixed, which is amazing is, These new drivers behave like Core Audio on a Mac, or any regular PC soundcard. I had been using Vista until now, because I could never get Windows 7 to work right. I have found Pro Tools 8.0.4 to be rock solid with Windows 7.
